Skateboarding is a lifestyle. And it's not a relic of the nineties, but current art. Seiko, in collaboration with the Japanese skateboard brand EVISEN, created a limited edition Seiko 5 Sports Evisen Skateboards, in which there are three models with an original design.

Evisen Skateboards was founded in 2011 by Katsumi Minami. The name "evisen" is derived from the Japanese "everything" and expresses the belief that skateboarding is simply everything. But the most interesting thing about the brand is that designs of the boards are inspired by Japanese culture, history and other motifs. The skateboard thus becomes a small work of art. That is one of the reason Evisen became popular in Japan as well as in the rest of the world.

They don't only make skateboards, but also clothes and other small items for skateboarders. And always in a way that expresses their individual style. A novelty in the form of a watch then fits perfectly into this section. And Seiko couldn't have chosen a better line than the sports 5 Sports, which focuses on young lovers of mechanical watches with a sporty character.

The offer contains three models, two limited models with 1500 pieces and one limited model that will only be available in selected boutiques and will have 700 pieces.

Black-gold model is inspired by a helmet with the samurai Evisen logo. On the dial, we can notice the Evisen logo and the bezel insert bears Japanese kanji characters. The black silicone strap with a paisley pattern underlines the oriental style of the watch.

On the caseback we can see a golden engraving in the form of an Evisen brand logo-helmet. The caseback is see-through, showing an automatic Seika 4R36 movement with power reserve of 40 hours, ticking at 3Hz frequency. The model will be in a special box and we expect it in April.

On the ocher dial we can find several references to the world of skateboards. For example, silver hexagon indices resemble axle lock nuts, the center of the hands looks like skateboard bearings and the dial is in the color of wheels. An interesting detail is the second hand, which has one part in blue. There is also a logo in the numeral 12 position and on the caseback, through which there is a view of the 4R36 movement with date-day complication, hacking and hand-winding option.

The bezel is simple, brushed, with a minute scale and is rotatable in one direction. The strap is made of leather, but at first glance it is a great imitation of wood. The color matches perfectly with the dial and the wooden pattern reflects the fact that boards are basically made of wood. Seiko 5 Sports SRPF93 watch comes in a special box and we expect it in April.

Probably the most interesting limited piece as sushimi. The dial truly captures tuna sushi and silicone strap white sushi rice. The dial and bezel are in a minimalist style, without indices, without a minute scale and only in raw tuna color.

The hour and minute hands have a tuna colored luminescence, while the second lumi point is in green referring to wasabi. The same shade of green is then on the caseback, where is also the Evisen logo. New is also cabochon in the color of soy sauce placed in the crown. The same say sauce color can be also seen on a part of the second hand. This model is going to be available in selected stores and is limited to 700 pieces only.

Seiko 5 Sports is the longest continuously sold Seika line. The first Fives were created in 1963, a year before the Tokyo Olympics. They arrived with a clear goal: captivating the then young generation and offering watches that are universal, can accompany owners anywhere and are affordable. And so the legend was born and became popular amongst everyone who longs for available reliable automatic watch.

Countless designs have emerged over the decades. They are often based on other well-known Seika models and series. The diving design of 5 Sports from recent years is based on the iconic SKX model. In this series, Seiko likes to present interesting limited pieces that fascinate collectors as well as ordinary fans. Among the most successful ones so far are  Brian May, Street Fighter or Naruto & Boruto.
