You know that feeling when you spend all year eagerly waiting for the next episode of your favourite series? Attention all fans of Mido’s colourful TV-themed special edition—the second episode has arrived! Mido Multifort TV S01E02 brings a playful TV test pattern motif with added “static” and a cool grey PVD finish.

Mido’s “TV” watches have slowly but surely become some of the most prominent pieces in the sporty-chic segment. Rounded lines, a more substantial construction and a distinctly ’70s design vibe have made them so unmissable that Mido, to our delight, has turned the model into a cornerstone—rolling it out in countless colourways and even with a chronograph.

The biggest stir last year, however, was caused by the multicoloured version that took the TV theme literally. The previous edition, Mido Multifort TV S01E01, flew off the shelves.

The new model continues in the same spirit. In fact, think of it as the second episode of season one: the same solid foundation with more refined design execution. What we appreciate is the more cohesive monochrome backdrop with a wide chapter ring that makes the bright colours of the TV test pattern pop, plus a grainier texture.

And, almost unbelievably, the design feels even more dynamic than last year’s. The biggest credit likely goes to the dark graphite-grey PVD treatment of the case and bracelet, which sets off the colours with striking contrast.

That’s also why the two additional silicone straps in vibrant yellow and blue will look perfect on these watches.

Otherwise, everything stays the same—be it the dimensions (note that the 39.2 mm diameter may look modest on paper, but given the case shape the figure is slightly misleading and the watch wears larger), the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, or the 100 m water resistance.

Things remain the same in the movement department, too. The Mido Calibre 80 (aka ETA C07.651) is the brand’s workhorse: an 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron hairspring for resistance to magnetic fields and shocks. As for complications, you get the ever-popular Big Date. Through the display back you can observe the rotor with Geneva stripes and the movement’s simple, clean, industrial finishing.

And even though this is a special edition rather than a limited one, we’ll probably see only a very small number of pieces make it to us. Ready, set, go—the hunt for Mido’s new episode starts now.
