By far the most popular is the Diesel Mega Chief series. And the name quite fits the watch. The case diameter doesn't reach under 50 mm, so it is a really proper watch. The water resistance is usually around 100 M, but the main attribute is the specific – of course, only design – glass attachment. It extends from the case and ends above the date indicator. And that's the typical feature of a Diesel watch.
The world-famous Diesel brand was founded in 1978 by Renzo Rossa. So even if we feel the brand is American,it was actually founded in Italy, where the brand still resides.. Rosso was mainly a jeans enthusiast. He started sewing them on his mom's sewing machine when he was 15 years old and when he turned 23, he set a base for his billion-dollar company. Nowadays, he is nicknamed a "jean genius".
The Mega Chief collection has a sporty vibe, so there is a place for a stopwatch and a basic luminescence, which is truly basic as it doesn't have great intensity or endurance.
The distinctive inscription Only The Brave is far from just a decorative element on the watch. In 2002, the founder of Diesel started to buy out other fashion brands and incorporated them under a mother company called Only The Brave. Nowadays, Diesel also falls under it.
The designs are still designed in Italy, but there are flagship stores all over the world. And almost every information article about Diesel mentioned their "surreal advertisement." To be honest, none of these advertisements ever reached my asocial bubble, but when I saw the introduction of the winter 2022 collection, I understood completely what they mean by surreal. Have you ever wondered why the brand is called Diesel? Allegedly, the founder saw a parallel in it. In the 1970s, diesel was considered a new alternative fuel with great potential. And Diesel wanted to offer alternative modern jeans. It also had practical reasons. It is easy to pronounce, and the pronunciation is the same for the whole world.
Throughout the series, you will come across a specifically colored glass. It changes colors at various angles, from, let's say, red to blue-green. What detracts from its readability definitely adds to the attractiveness and design originality.

If you are thinking, how can they produce shower gel and watches in a jeans factory? They don't. They have them manufactured by companies that understand these segments more. Diesel only offers quartz models, so watches powered by a battery. There are no mechanical watches, as they would get picked on by the whole chronomatic world. But Diesel has recently dived into smartwatches (who hasn't, right?), but they did not have a success on our market. So they stuck to classics. More popular are analog watches, but digital ones can also be stylish. Especially in the Diesel Crusher series.
Diesel also often places the crown and buttons at nine o'clock, on the opposite side of the case than we are used to. Many believe that this is a collection for left handed people (and in practice it may work that way). But it's more about design again. This is typical for the Diesel MS9 series.
Fossil was founded in the 1980s and has specialized in watches since the beginning. In addition, they also added other products under their own name. And they raise the profits with licensed products for other brands. Including Diesel. By the way, the American watch brand Fossil is the reason why we can have watches from Puma, Michael Kors, or Donny Karen NY, for example.
And one more collection there is truly original. The Diesel Mr. Daddy. In addition to the large sizes, they have a lot of "alarm clocks" on the dial. In addition to stopwatch counters, there are other times so the owner can set, for example, multiple time zones. However, you may be a little surprised when replacing the battery – every "dial" is powered by a separate battery. But it looks stylish, doesn't it?
Even though the Diesel watches are not any watch gems – and they are not pretending to be – they still have their place in fashion and they are still popular. But you don't have to question the quality. They use stainless steel for the cases, and mineral glasses and water resistance is always good enough for normal wear. Nevertheless, it is good to remember that this is mainly about style and design, and it is not a watch for the terrain, for diving, or any other extremes…
